You've heard it said a thousand times: Leaders are Readers, and as far as business ownership goes, education is crucial and you can never stop learning, growing and pushing yourself. As a group of young entrepreneurs we plan to pick a book each month to have as our featured book club reading. The books chosen are chosen because we believe that they have beneficial information for business owners, young people, and creatives. You can join in if you want, we'll be posting blog posts open for discussion about the books each month where you can ask questions, share your ideas, quote or favorite parts, and just talk about what you've been learning and how you can make yourself and your business better because of it.

November Book Club: Love is the Killer App

Hello friends! At out last meet up we talked about how we were going to have an open book club each month to read books related to business, marketing, creativity, and the like. As cliche’ as it sounds, Leaders are Readers, is a statement that has been proven true over and over again. And as self-employed individuals, we don’t have any boss or corporate HR department handling our development. So that leaves it in our hands.

Many of you may not be big readers which is why we are going to try to make this as low-stress and fun as possible. If you’ve never been in any sort of book club, they make the whole experience so much better because you are able to discuss your ideas about the book with others, talk about what you agree with and what you don’t agree with, and really get into some good discussions. Far better than just reading alone.

We picked November’s book because it’s highly renowned and also, pretty short. ;)

Love is the Killer App: How to Win Business and Influence Friends, by Tim Sanders is all about the new wave of doing business the “lovecat” way via compassionate leadership. Tim Sanders talks about the value of relationships in business and practical strategies for developing them.

The book is broken into 4 main parts. (Which helps immensely since there happen to be 4 weeks in a month.) So let’s plan on reading a section a week in November. So everyone go get your copies now. We’ll recap the first section: “The Lovecat Way” the week of the 9th. What do you guys think the best way to discuss is? Should we do it via comments? Should we do it via a facebook discussion board or other message board system? What is the easiest and most appealing for you?

To give you an idea of what we’ll be reading, I’ll leave you with this video of Tim Sanders himself from his website…

(It’s so funny at the end! I was literally laughing out loud at him and at myself.)
